Jullian Gomes – Late Dreamer

Jullian Gomes – Late Dreamer, Now available for pre-order from iTunes, Google Play & Amazon MP3.

From the age of 13, Jullian Gomes secretly gambled every cent of his school lunch money on buying deep-house records; no doubt with the unknown knowledge that someday, these records would change his life forever.

• iTunes – Pre-order

• Amazon MP3 – Pre-order

Only a few people know this but Jullian used to sneak, yes! sneak into local clubs in and around Pretoria / Tshwane from a very early age. At this time nothing could stop this young man being ‘in the moment’ to enjoy the music that has now, amazingly, become his full time career. Maybe his parents will be ok with the knowledge of his secret nightlife now knowing how incredibly skilled and loved their son has become throughout the world of dance music. Jullian Gomes is truly a very dedicated individual, and this young musical maestro has in just a few years leaped forward and galvanised a career for himself in a very competitive industry.

From his brief visit to London for the Red Bull Music Academy in 2010, to releasing his debut album ‘Late Dreamer’ in 2016, Gomes, with a lot of hard grafting built up his relationships and very quickly covered a lot of very bumpy and obstacle-ridden ground to get him to where he is today. To say this man is ‘Here To Stay’ is a massive understatement.

Late Dreamer is unmistakably the sound of ‘Jullian Gomes’ – wonderfully laid back, thick chunky beat-ridden soulful house music featuring some incredible talent. From the teachings of the wonderful wordsmith OVEOUS, to South Africa’s most celebrated female in dance music ‘Bucie’, Liquid Deep’s ‘Ziyon’ and talenteers Lazarusman, Daev Martin, Sio, Kabomo, Bobby, UK-based Sarai Jazz, and Martin Iveson. A clear and well though out collection of songs, that together make a warm and attractive addition to the world of electronic soul music.

This debut album started out its life in a spark of realisation with Jullian’s mind working in overdrive thinking way back to a time where it all started for him. Working his day job to make his daily bread and thereafter falling asleep in his home studio in the dark of night pushing to carve his musical career. Waking up one morning ‘late’ to go to his day job, he asked himself the question “What am I late for?” this lead to Jullian’s priorities shifting wildly planting the seed that he may be too late to follow the dreams he had for all these years.

This album and indeed Gomes’ whole musical career is the biggest leap of faith he has ever taken and it sure has paid off. Jullian may be in his own eyes a ‘Late Dreamer’, yet he has proved time and time again that dreams can come true if you believe.

Thee Gobbs is back with “Like A Drum”

After the much-lauded ARCo. debut of South African artist Thee Gobbs with ‘The Love’, expectations are high for his next release. This much-anticipated slice of deep house delivers exactly what fans of this exciting young artist have been waiting for. Starting off with the original: ‘Like A Drum’ we immediately kick into a beat-lover’s dream. A driving bass and percussion move us forward into a smooth vocal from Merdly B. Light harmonic touches and melodic bass accompany the seductive vocal to create a uniquely South African take on a classic disco-infused sound. Next up TrueSelf arrives, fresh from remixing Si Tew’s awesome “Breathe” alongside Atjazz, with a more pensive take on proceedings. A booming low-range tone punctuates some high-fade static action and once accompanied by a cutting deep synth and catchy hook.

This is a totally new take on the original track and you will not find yourself disappointed! Finally step up the Irish duo Fish Go Deep, associated with the likes of Laurent Garnier, Kerri Chandler and Roger Sanchez, with two cuts to add to the experience. The first is a Vocal Remix which takes the suggestions from the original version and then build a world of compelling off-key notes and high acidic trills around Merdly B’s luscious sonic vocal. Then the twosome return for a second offering with a Dub covered in crunchy, staccato effects which ride roughshod over a sweet synth note that slowly permeates the tasty phonic effort.

Jullian Gomes talks Music Life!…

With a comprehensive approach to his style of music it is resoundingly clear that music has been his personal journey toward self discovery. A melodic oasis of sorts which saw him define his style outside of his family and mainstream fetishism, the result of which is a sound and style like none ever before heard or experienced.

Candid about the obstacles faced on his journey toward self and music, Gomez shares that these are but moments in his life which have since earned him the accolades he has been adorned with by both his peers and audience.

A sonic absorption of energy from the townships of Pretoria to night clubs in Paris, Gomez emphasises that the one and only relatable language spoken in these spaces is music. Familiar with early mornings and late nights, personal sacrifices have seen him carve sketches of his legacy. Unlike many mainstream dj’s and producers, his nouveau and eclectic sound is both effervescent in its contemporary relevance and ageless despite his youth. Here is an artist intent on discovering the ingredients for the perfect serving of wholesome music, the result, a timeless flavour to coax and flirt with our musical palates.

Sensual, freeing, colourful, new, euphoric, trance inducing, these are the nuances to the sound that Julian Gomez has introduced the world to.
He was told to be different, and different is what he was.

At Ease… Soldiers By Soldiers is here!

Yes, it’s here, the superb remix package from Atjazz & OVEOUS’s Soldiers project.

Fresh from the exciting collaboration between the US and UK, OVEOUS and Atjazz reload the powerful story of “Soldiers” by inviting some of the most exciting talent in the deep house genre to further illuminate us by putting their own spin on an already profound journey of acceptance in the face of ignorance.  Welcome to “Soldiers By Soldiers”.

We kick off with DJ Tipz’s interpretation; a sleek and contemplative offering with a soft driving percussion to evoke the personal feel of OVEOUS’ lyrics.

Known for his eclectic style and high production values, Arnaud D adds a cutting synth and deep bass tone to proceedings with his “Deep Atmosphere Mix”.  Arnaud then goes further with his “Deeper Mix”, this time taking a smoother, almost effortless approach to the cut.

Up next is a frequent ARCo collaborator; the ever-popular award-winning Jullian Gomes whose remix floats a velvet synth over a deeper, funkier overall vibe.  Gomes then gives us a more introspective contribution by stepping up the melodies and concentrating on the overall feel of the dub on his second offering.

In steps a perfectionist in At One, whose remix evokes those early 90’s melodic hooks that devotees will appreciate and newcomers will love.

One half of the original duo, OVEOUS then returns to the fray next and by adding a tight hook and rhythmic bass he plays with the original “Soldiers” whilst introducing us to a new dimension of his art.  One for those who like to move their hips!

Last to step to the plate is the other half of the original twosome, Atjazz, who adds his usual individual approach to the affair.  A driving percussion and silky jazz notes take “Soldiers” to the next level and is a fitting finale to the EP.
