Zano

Atjazz & Zano go Head to Head! It’s the TRUTH!

Atjazz & Zano have been throwing ideas around for years and in 2014 they came up with Truth… Although it took a while to get the project to a place they were both happy with, it has most definitely been worth the wait.

Part 1 features awesome reworks from one of our favourite musical designers, Simbad!

Kicking out his first full release of 2016, and contributing to his ‘20 Years of Atjazz’ year long party, the man himself has teamed up with celebrated South African vocalist ‘Zano’, who we all know for his many collaborations with heavyweights Black Coffee, Cuebur, Ralf Gum & of course, Atjazz & Jullian Gomes. Starting off with the title track we immediately get loaded up with Motown styled swinging beats that soon lead into subdued rolling chords reminiscent of early Masters at Work productions of which set the vibe of ‘Truth’ solidly. Zano then announces his arrival with a vocal so sweet it leaves you felling rewarded for listening. As the song moves on Atjazz layers up more harmonies and Zano reciprocates in turn to create a signature sonic showcasing the skill of both parties, a brilliant collaboration of talents. Truth gets serious remix treatment from one of our favourite UK-based production machines, the mighty ‘Simbad’ who throws this down in style. Sound-scapes reminiscent of 80s rare-groove classics and layers of typical Simbad pad flourishes lead into a very subtle and very attractive beat-down. He follows with a forward-thinking London-licked broken-beat dub, dance-floor danger! The high production values and sharp notes of this release certainly set the tone for what is to be a seminal year for Atjazz. We can’t wait for the next one!

You are now safely tuned into “Truth (Part 2”) from the formidable Atjazz & Zano. We return to the fold with a trio of fantastic remixes. Moscow-based production machine “Lay-Far” begins this journey with a solid, driven contribution as per his usual output. His clever sampling of Zano’s vocal is the foundation on which the rest of the track is built and this offers a very tidy outcome. Next up, Si Tew goes straight in, breaking the beats up and playing with deep rolling bass notes and the lightest of melodic touches, this coupled with Zano’s rhythmic vocal delivers a delightful sonic arrangement in full, and summery to boot! Rounding things off with an on-point deep-house dub is Zano’s fellow South African, Gauteng-based Nuno (SEA), with his ‘Dub of Sorts Mix’. Listen up, no messing around with this lot.

Atjazz & Jullian Gomes – Here to Stay (Feat. Zano)

Here to Stay is taken from the album ‘The Gift The Curse’

Martin Atjazz & Jullian Gomes have put together what is an incredible electronic dance album accompanied by some of the industries most sought after vocalists. An album born out of their love of music, this block of well-crafted work oozes honesty and forward thinking. Not being bogged down with industry demands. They have made an album that Martin describes as ‘us on a plate’. The styling behind this sonic masterpiece begins with an instrumental song entitled ‘Poor Man’, a song reflecting the hardships of surviving on making emotional and deep dance music. Then we’re straight into the vocal realm with ‘Philosophy’, this soulful slider with vocals performed by Osunlade outlines the difficulties in relationships within the music industry and further afield when people maybe not be sharing the same ‘Philosophy’. From soulful vocal drenched songs such as ‘Turn Back To You’ featuring house hero Robert Owens play through, we start to really get a grounded feel to what this album is about, ‘Two guys making music for the right reasons’. Dark and edgy songs like ‘White Rose’ & ‘Overshadowed’ seem to complete this technically polished album and whatever you like about house music, you’ll find something here for your taste. An incredible electronic body of work which tells an emotional story, of both Atjazz & Jullian Gomes’ lengthy journey through this musical jungle.
