Interview

In 7 Words: Clyde Beats

Q1: You’re?

A Chi Huo. I can dress up my interests to look as high-brow as I like, but ultimately, who am I trying to kid? There are a small number of key drivers that ultimately motivate me. Music is one and food is another. So much so that the very first Mandarin phrase I learned was ‘chi huo’. It kind of means foodie, but more so, chow hound.

I live in Northeast China. The food is a mixture of Beijing style, influenced by Russia and North Korea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeastern_Chinese_cuisine

Q2: When?

My days are far simpler now I live in China. Time is divided purely over: Sleep, eating, exercising, teaching, writing, music, and love. On the subject of time, being late is intolerable, similar to a mirror not being straight.

Q3: Why?

There doesn’t always have to be a defined reason. But striving to be genuine, original and a little left-field seem to be good justifications for any efforts I put into stuff, like music.

Q4: Watching?

My attention span has always been…

OK, the last movie I rewatched was Quadrophenia, mainly because it serves as a fascinating time capsule of Britain. But it’s the two accents it features that tickle me. Disenfranchised London youth’s 60s lingo, or the upper class received pronunciation. No in between.

Barbin ili is a Chinese robotic dancer. I watch her quite a lot. Some of her concepts and coordinating dance moves are outstanding and I’d love to have her in a music video one day. This video is her most skilful, IMHO.

I watch way too many podcasts on YouTube, too, namely by these guys

People watching is ‘the best’. I do it all day in China. Always intriguing.

Q5: Hearing?

A lot more detail in my more mature years. Thankfully, this includes music. I appreciate a lot more of the syncopation and tonality in the music I love and this carries through to the music I produce.

It also includes details from people’s points of view.

Q6: Playing?

All roads lead back to the classics. Well, what I view to be the classics. Life’s cycles tend to result in the return to certain moments in music. These often include copious amounts of 90s Hip Hop, The Clash and Stevie Wonder.

Q7: Loving?

I love being able to do just three things in life and they are Music, Writing and Teaching. Of the music, my new album, Clyde Beats – Hyper Reality 2 (An English Gentleman) is available now!

In 7 Words: Peacey

Peacey forthcoming album ‘Play It By Ear’ is now available for pre-order / pre-save

Q1: You’re?

A creative bubble inhabitant, chief bucket list crosser-offer with my debut album dropping 2024, a maestro of melodies for you delightful folks, a collaboration connoisseur, always remixing, a perpetual learner, a dreamer of expensive synths I can’t afford, a dad, a hubby, and a full-time job juggler. Oh, and I also go by the name, Peacey. A pleasure to make your acquaintance! “inhales dramatically

Q2: When?

I may be as time-starved as a dessert buffet at a weight loss convention, and finding a spare moment might be like hunting for treasure in a sandcastle. But when it comes to my friends and musical family, consider this the golden hour – I’m all ears!

Q3: Why?

Because I love what I do and I do what I love. Happiness is my currency.

Q4: Watching?

The never ending spinning wheel of death on my studio computer, Youtube cat videos, binging Prime like it’s an Olympic sport, getting lost in mind-bending documentaries, and enjoying a zillion comedy and sci-fi films when insomnia pays a visit.

However, of late, the new series of Frasier and really enjoying season 1 of “Bodies” on Netflix

Q5: Hearing?

Is still good in my 40’s, aside from the occasional tinnitus serenades it treats me to. It’s my way of adding a touch of avant-garde to my audio experience!

With the joking aside, creativity is my constant companion, I’m in a perpetual state of listening. When it comes to crafting music, I eagerly welcome the unexpected and pursue ideas with the daring spirit of a child in a toy shop.

Q6: Playing?

The fool, aways. Ask my friends and wife and they will confirm this!

But seriously.. the music that grace the airwaves in my humble abode might surprise you. Even if it’s not a style or genre I’d showcase, I’ll find inspiration in the most unexpected sounds and that’s the beauty of it.

Q7: Loving?

My wife, children, friends and of course my beloved ARCo. family. without them, I am a shell.

….And the fact that I have my debut album dropping. Did I mention that already? :)

In 7 Words: Abel

We throw down our 7 words interview to Abel and get a little deeper in the run-up to the launch of his new album ‘Cosmic Law

Q1: You’re?

Investing time in Cubase 12, Piano playing and chasing the raising bar, set by myself and my superb peer group.

Q2: When?

Only one place to live and that is now, ask my mate Eckhart!

Q3: Why?

It’s in my blood and in my heart, part of my being. Many many years in the business and I love it as much now as when I started out, possibly more!

Q4: Watching?

Crowded Room, Hijack, The Last Of Us on my own, Ted Lasso with my wife, Breaking Bad (again) and Arsenal matches with my son, Unicorn Crack with my daughter

Q5: Hearing?

Inspiration everywhere, in music, in nature and in speech. I’m always listening out. In song-writing you have to be open to what is presented to you and be brave enough to pursue ideas. Youth often springs the best!

Q6: Playing?

Tennis 4-6 hours a week, never enough. It’s how I relax and yet if you saw me play I think you would find that very hard to believe.

Q7: Loving?

Family, friends, music and silence.

Peace, Abel x
